How do I give CPR?

Answer:
CPR or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation is the
process of restarting the heart during a life threatening emergency.  Learning the correct way to perform CPR and recognizing when a victim needs CPR could save a life.  I'll discuss the most common emergencies that warrant CPR and how the proper way to give CPR?

There are several common emergencies that warrant CPR.

A Heart Attack is evident when a victim is complaining about severe or sharp pain for several minutes. This is usually accompanied by extreme discomfort and pressure.  The best way to remotely diagnose a Heart Attack is the time in which the pain lasts.  If it lasts for several minutes then most likely it is a Heart Attack.  Chest pain that lasts a few seconds probably isn't a heart attack.  If the victim is unresponsive and going into a Cardiac Arrest then it's time to perform CPR.  A Cardiac Arrest is when the heart stops pumping blood.  The victim is not responding to certain stimulus and is not showing signs of normal breathing.  A Stroke and Choking can also lead to a Cardiac Arrest.  If the victim isn't responding due to a Stroke or their airway is blocked then you should perform CPR.  These are just a few common emergencies but note that Cardiac Arrest can happen in a thousand situations, from a car wreck to a drowning.

The best way to recognize a Cardiac Arrest is by placing your ear to the victims mouth and listen for and feel for a breath.  Additionally, you should always check for a pulse.

If the victim is unresponsive then the emergency process should begin.

If you are in a public area, yell for someone to call 911.  If you are not in a pubic place dial 911 and tell them the location and there is a victim in Cardiac Arrest.

Tilt the victims head backwards by pressing slightly on their chin.  The idea is that you want a nice straight line where the wind pipe is.  When your head is turned down it somewhat constrains the wind pipe.

Pinch the victims nose so that when you breath for them the air will go into their lungs instead of coming out their nose.

Breath 2 deep breaths into the victims mouth.  You should see the chest rise.  Check to see if the victim is breathing by putting your ear to their mouth.

If the victim isn't breathing after 2 deep breaths it's time to do chest compressions.  Measure one finger width below an imaginary line connecting the victims niples.  So if you had a string and connected the victims nipples then measure one fingers width or an inch or so below that line right in the middle of the chest.

Cup your hands so that you can start the chest compressions.  Do 30 fast compressions, firmly pressing on the victims chest.  Check to see if the victim is breathing by putting your ear to their mouth.

If the victim isn't breathing give them 2 more deep breaths.  Continue 2 deep breaths followed by 30 fast chest compressions until the victim is breathing.

Try and associate the process with something you are familiar with.  For example, I'm a basketball fanatic and Michael Jordan was number 23 so I remember 2 breaths and 30 chest compressions.
