How do you get Diabetes?

Answer:
There are two types of diabetes: type 1-diabetes
(formerly called insulin-dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes) is usually seen in young people, and is also known as an autoimmune disease as the body’s own immune system destroys the cells in the pancreas which make insulin.

Type 2-diabetes (formerly called non-insulin-dependent diabetes or adult-onset diabetes) is seen more often in adults over 40 who are overweight.

It’s not known why someone develops type 1-diabetes although scientists believe it may be triggered by a virus or due to an inherited gene. Type 2-diabetes is thought to be brought on by the lifestyle we lead today in the western world, namely over-indulgence in food and not enough exercise.
