What are some Skin Cancer symptoms?

Answer:
Skin Cancers come in several forms, and symptoms
vary depending on which form presents itself.  Some skin cancers are found typically in specific areas of the body (i.e., areas where sun exposure is greatest), while others may be found anywhere on the body.  Early detection and treatment is key to successful healing.

The most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma (most common; easily treated; not as likely to spread), squamous cell carcinoma (easily treated if detected early; more apt to spread), and melanoma (most serious; most skin cancer deaths caused by this form; may develop in moles or normal skin tissue).

Symptoms of basal cell carcinoma are:
-Shiny, pale, waxy lump on skin (typically face, ears, neck areas).
-Brown or flesh colored, flat lesion (on back or chest areas).

Symptoms of squamous cell carcinoma
are:
-Flat, scaly, crusted lesion (typically face, neck, ears, hands, arms).
-Red, firm lump (face, lips, ears, neck, arms, hands).

Symptoms of melanoma
are:
-Mole that changes color, size or feel, or that bleeds (anywhere on skin).
-Firm, rounded, shiny bumps (anywhere on skin); dark spots or lesions on soles of feet, palms of hands, toes, fingers, or mucous membranes in mouth, nose, anus or vagina.
-Large, speckled, brown spot (anywhere on skin).
-Small, irregular lesion or spot with blue/black, white or red spots (trunk, limbs).

There are a few other forms of skin cancers; Karposi sarcoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, Sebaceous gland carcinoma, all of which are considered rare.

As with all medical symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments, only trained and certified professionals can accurately assess individual situations.
