What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are swollen, irregular veins

that often develop in the legs, particularly the calves. They’re caused by vein walls weakening leading to the veins dilating (widening).

Varicose veins are most common in older women, and although they may look unattractive and sometimes be painful, they don’t usually cause any serious health problems.

There are three types of varicose veins; trunk varicose veins which are thick and nobly veins close to the surface of the skin, reticular varicose veins which are red veins sometimes grouped close together, and telangiectasia varicose veins which are also known as thread or spider veins and usually appear on the face or legs.
