What is a bad cholesterol level?

Answer:
Unless you haven't opened a newspaper, or turned
on a television in the last seventy years, you know that high cholesterol is bad.  But, what exactly is bad, and how do you find out your cholesterol level?

Everyone should get a cholesterol check.  In order to find out your cholesterol level, either get a check up with your family doctor, or visit a clinic that performs cholesterol checks.  Typically, you will be asked to fast for around twelve hours so that your reading doesn't include the usual dose of Krispy Cream.  The lab will then draw blood.

There are two types of cholesterol that are in the reading.  LDL, or the bad cholesterol, and HDL, or the good cholesterol.

A good level for LDL is anything between 100 and 129 mg/dl

A reading of between 130 and 159mg/dl is borderline high risk

High risk is anything from 160 to 189mg/dl

Anything over 189mg/dl is considered very high risk

HDL levels should be between 40 and 50mg/dl
