rhythm of the heartbeat. Arrhythmia is the term used for an abnormal heartbeat which can be a beat that’s too fast, a heart beat that’s too slow or one that’s stopped altogether.

A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart develops an arrhythmia that causes it to stop beating.

Anyone who goes into a cardiac arrest will die within a few minutes unless he or she receives immediate medical attention. Defibrillation is a form of electric shock treatment that’s used during a cardiac arrest to restore the heartbeat to its normal rhythm.
