What is a stroke?

Answer:
A stroke is a brain injury caused by
the sudden interruption of the blood supply to the brain.  Depending on the area of the brain effected by the stroke, different functions can be altered.

Sense of feeling, the ability to speak or see, or the ability to walk are just some of the physical activities that might be effected.

An Ischemic Stroke is caused by a blockage, such as a clot, in an artery leading to the brain.  When an artery ruptures inside the brain, this is known as an Intracerebral Hemorrhage. The brain is then compressed by the sudden release of blood.  A Subarachnoid Hemorrhage is a lot like a intracerebral hemorrhage in that it involves the rupturing of an artery.  However, in this case the blood fills the area surrounding the brain.
