What Is Adenopathy?

Answer:
Adenopathy is a medical condition which means swelling
or enlargement of the lymph nodes.

Adenopathy is caused by infections, inflammatory conditions, auto-immune disease or malignancy. Adenopathy is more commonly referred as Lymphadenopathy which may occur in any part of the body. Adenopathy is usually a symptom of an underlying disease rather than disease itself.

There are various causes of Adenopathy. Some of them are diseases like mononucleosis, previous chicken pox infection, HIV infection, Epstein Barr Virus infection, brucellosis. Besides these, some cancers, parasitic infections and auto-immune diseases may also lead to swollen lymph nodes.

Adenopathy is treated by curing the underlying cause, e.g. bacterial infections are treated by antibiotics. Sometimes biopsy of affected lymph node is also taken especially in case of lymphoma.
