They often occur along with other psychiatric disorders such as depression, substance abuse, and anxiety, and are most commonly found among teenage girls and women.

A person with an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia thinks of, and sees, themselves as overweight even though, in reality, they are dangerously thin.

Due to the poor nutritional habits that arise from an eating disorder, a person can cause harm to their organs, becoming very ill or dying.
