What is Breast Cancer?

Answer:
Breast cancer is the name given to a large family
of cancers that develop in any part of the breast tissue. Most breast cancers develop in the ducts or lobules of the breast as a result of an abnormality in the cells lining these areas.

Pre-invasive breast cancer is the term used for cancer that’s still confined to the duct or lobule; the most common pre-invasive cancers are ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS).

However, most cancers are found when they are invasive, meaning that the cancer has spread to outside the duct or lobule of the breast and surrounding tissue.

Both men and women develop breast cancer although it is very rare in men.
