What is cortisol?

Answer:
Cortisol is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands
when the body is under stress.

Artificial forms of cortisol include Hydrocortisone, which is used as a treatment for arthritis.  Cortisol increases the blood pressure and blood sugar but suppresses the immune system.  Natural levels of cortisol are highest in the moring and at the lowest around midnight.

Cortisol helps restore homeostasis after stress and its primary use is to trigger the immune system to fight diarrhea-causing diseases due to potassium deficiency.
