All laser eye surgery works by reshaping the cornea, the clear part at the front of the eye covering the eyeball, so that light passing through it is properly focused onto the retina at the back of the eye.

With PRK surgery, a laser is used on the surface of the cornea to reshape it. The LASIK procedure involves the use of a laser under the cornea to make corrections.
