How much water should I drink?

Answer:
There are various recommendations on how much water
an individual needs, there are many factors that contribute to how much you need, where you live, your health, and your activity level.

Every system in your body depends on an adequate supply of water.  Water flushes toxins from our system and anything that requires a moist environment relies on water.  Not enough water can lead to dehydration.

A good guideline that everyone can follow is judging the color of your urine.  If it is colorless or slightly yellow, you are probably getting enough water.  Drinking water throughout the day is a great way to accomplish this.  You can carry a large bottle of water around, as I do, and drink from it throughout the day.  If you keep the water ice cold, it can be a great way to burn fat, as your body needs to heat the water.  Or you can drink a glass with, and in between each meal.

Always make sure to drink water before, during, and after a workout.   It is good to consume a sports drink such as Gatorade because they contain electrolytes and sodium that the body is using during the workout.  Also,  if you live in a hot or warmer climate you will need more water.  The skin is where we tend to lose a lot of water through perspiration and general skin maintenance.

You'll also need more hydration in the event of an illness such as a cold or fever.  Your body will use a lot of fluid fighting these complications and you will need to replace this fluid.  It is good to force fluids in these situations, as this helps to "flush" your system.

In general, men should consume thirteen cups, or six and a half glasses, and women should drink nine cups, or four and a half glasses a day.  These rules are not hard and fast.  One should consider their over-all health, level of activity, and their environment when deciding how much water to drink.
