What is caffeine?

Answer:
As a chemical, pure caffeine is a plant-based alkaloid.
Caffeine is a stimulant that affects the central
nervous system of any thing that ingests it.  Caffeine is considered a psychoactive drug, and is the most widely used drug in the world, but has not been designated as a controlled substance.  Depending on its source plant, it may be called theine, guaranine, or mateine.

Caffeine has the effect of increasing your heart rate and making you feel more awake and alert.  An eight-ounce cup of coffee typically contains around 85 milligrams of caffeine, an eight-ounce cup of tea, 40 milligrams.  Caffeine is not stored and moves through ones system very quickly.
