What is Glycogen?

Answer:
Glycogen is a complex carbohydrate that
is derived from glucose that comes from excess sugar and is primarily stored in the liver and cells of the muscles.  Our bodies store glycogen in a 1 to 3 ratio with water.

Glycogen that is stored in the liver is more available for energy needs and the maintenance of blood glucose levels.

The muscles contain a comparatively small amount of glycogen.  This glycogen is used for quick muscle energy during physical exertion.  A small amount of glycogen can also be found stored in the brain and in the kidneys.
