What is the Recommended Daily Allowance?

Answer:
The Recommended Daily Allowance, RDA, is a recommendation for nutrients developed by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council.

The RDA states the amount of a nutrient
that is needed for most people to stay healthy. The recommendations for children, adults, males, and females differ.

There is also the Dietary Reference Intake.   The DRI is an umbrella group that encompasses other nutrient measures: RDA, Adequate Intakes, Estimated Average Intakes, and Tolerable Upper Intakes.  This is becoming a more popular nutrient recommendation format and should, in time, replace the RDA.
