It is believed, in the practice of yoga, that one cannot possess control over the mind and maintain concentration without control over the bodies inclination to move around.  The Asanas develop the discipline a person needs to go about life and prepare for meditation.  Whether you are seriously getting into yoga, or just dabbling, the Asanas make for great stretches and can be very relaxing.
