What are the Hamstrings?

Answer:
The Hamstrings are comprised of the three large
muscles on the back, or underside, of the thy.  The hamstrings consist of the semitendinosus, the semimembranosus, and
the biceps femoris.

The hamstring cross at the hip and the knee.  The function of these four muscles is to flex, or bend, the knee.  Three of the four also work to straighten the hip.

The hamstrings play a large role in many of our activities.  Walking, running, and jumping all involve these muscles.  For any athlete, it is important to keep the hamstrings strong, as well as limber.  Because they are so important to a large number of activities, a "pulled" hamstring is a quite common injury.
