What are the Pilates Principles? |
|
Answer:
The Pilates Principles consist of five to nine Rather, the principles were set in place by Pilates instructors. Because of this, there is no universal agreement on the number of principles, or the wording, among the Pilates community. Here is a basic rundown of some of the principles: Concentration- The conscious control, and total commitment to each movement enhances body awareness. Control- Proper form performed safely is more important than intensity and reps. Centering- Mental focus calms the spirit. Focusing on the center of the body, or core, allows the rest of the body to function in a more efficient way. Stabilizing- Stillness must be achieved before you can move. Breathing- Conscious patterns of diaphrambic breathing, while thinking of the lungs as a bellows, are used to initiate movement. Alignment- Proper alignment from your head to your toes is the key to good posture. Fluidity- Pilates emphasises smooth, graceful, continuous motions rather than jerky repetitions. Integration- By engaging several muscle groups at once, one achieves a greater control and support over their movement. Trackback(0)
