What is a good workout for Golfers?

Answer:
Aside from the 100,000 things that we all feel we need
to be focused on when we swing a club at that little white ball, we also need to be in pretty good shape.  Who's the best golfer in the world?  Tiger Woods.

Who's the only golfer that steps onto a professional course with the build of Muhamed Ali?  Tiger Woods.  That's no accident.  Tiger Wood has the strength training regimine of a strong safety in the NFL.

To be in good golf shape we need to have a good amount of overall strength.  We need the upper body strength for swinging the club, and the lower body strength for driving through the ball.  Along with the strength, we want to have an above average amount of flexibility so that we can get the torque we need out of our torso.  On top of all of that, golfers need to be in good cardiovascular shape.

For the strength portion, we want to perform a standard strength building workout focusing on compound (multi joint) exercises such as dead lifts, rows, bench press, overhead press, and squats. These exercises should be performed 1 to 2 sets for 8-12 reps to failure.  This will provide the overall strength desired.

For the flexibility, we need a good stretching regimen.  We want something that will stretch the legs and torso, especially.  Following a good 15 to 20 minute yoga routine, as well as Pilates, will get us limbered up.

When it comes to cardio, there are all kinds of things that will help the golf game.  Running, of course, is the standard bearer for getting your wind built up.  Jumping rope is my personal favorite when it comes to cardio.  Since walking is a large part of golf, it makes sense that walking would be a good exercise.

Combine these elements into a workout that you perform a couple of times a week, and you'll be in good golf shape before spring.
