What is a tendon?

Answer:
A tendon is that weird rubbery thing that you
gag on and spit out while eating a drum stick.  It is tissue that connects muscles to bones.  It is the muscles job to move the skeletal structure of the body.

When a muscle contracts it creates a pulling motion.  It is the connection of the tendon that acts as an elastic band, thus allowing this contraction to move the bones.  This is the basis of bodily movement.

There are large tendons, such as the Achilles tendon, and small tendons that move your fingers and toes.  When a tendon becomes inflamed, or develops micro-tares, it becomes inflamed and painful during movement.  This is known as tendinitis.  A proper warm-up before physical activity can go a long way toward preventing tendinitis.
