What is power yoga?

Answer:
Power Yoga is a form of yoga that incorporates
an accelerated succession of the yoga asanas, or body postures.  The asanas are performed for a shorter period of time than Hatha yoga, and the movement between is faster, creating a more strength/aerobic-based  "workout".

For instance, power yoga may combine a standing sun salutation with a prone cobra.  In the first posture, you are standing tall.  In the next, you are in a push-up position with your back arched and face toward the ceiling.  The transitions between the two are done in a very swift motion.  After the cobra you might push back up into the standing position and repeat this process for several repetitions.

By the time you've completed a forty-five minute session of power yoga, you are pretty wiped.  So, if you sign up for a power yoga class, don't expect to find peace and enlightenment.  What you are going to find is sweat.  I am a certified personal trainer and consider my self to be in  pretty good shape.  I also like yoga.  I like the stretching and relaxation of it.  However, the first time I took a power yoga class, it kicked my butt.

So if your looking for a good total body workout that combines aerobics with strength, look no further than a power yoga class.
