What is Yoga?

Answer:
Yoga is, in part, an exercise system that builds strength and flexibility
through various asanas, or poses. However, yoga is also a system of ethical guidelines, moral behavior, meditation, and breathing. Yoga probably began in India, several millennia ago, and first appears in writing about two thousand years ago.

There are many schools, or styles, of yoga, with different philosophies and practices. Some of the most popular styles include hatha yoga, ashtanga yoga, kundalini yoga, Bikram yoga, and kundalini yoga.

Hatha yoga focuses on perfecting the body in order to perfect the mind. Hatha yoga makes use of breathing techniques, asanas, and meditation.

Ashtanga yoga is a more fast-paced, aerobic form of yoga, with smooth, quick transitions between the poses.

Kundalini yoga focuses on awakening kundalini energy, or life energy, in our bodies.

Bikram yoga, or “hot yoga, is practiced in a hot, humid room to promote sweating and rid the body of toxins.

Mantra yoga focuses on calming your mind and body using mantras.
