How do I treat diabetes?

Answer:
Diabetes is controllable through the use of medicine and a good dietary plan. The National Institutes of Health finds that good glucose control can reduce the complications of diabetes by about 60 percent.

A diabetes patient needs to monitor their blood sugar
regularly and needs to make adjustments in diet, medication and exercise accordingly.  Blood is typically monitored before meals and at bedtime.  Urine testing was more common in the past, but blood testing has been greatly improved and is more accurate.

It is of great importance that a patient take their medication as prescribed, either through insulin or an oral drug.  Along with this medication, the patient needs to develop a personal meal plan that they can follow.  Losing weight can really help a treatment plan, so if you are overweight, lose weight.

Be sure to speak with your doctor if your program isn’tkeeping your blood sugar under control. You can make modifications if necessary.
