What are electrolytes?

Answer:
Electrolytes are the compounds that make up
the positively and negatively charged ions in the body. Ions are electrically charged and move toward either a negative or positive electrode. These ions
help to maintain the chemical balance in the body.

Electrolytes result from the breakdown of salts, such as sodium, magnesium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate, phosphate, and sulfate.

For good health, the electrolytes balance in ones body must be maintained.  People who exercise heavily, and therefore produce a lot of sweat, need to eat foods high in potassium in order to maintain this balance.  Fresh fruits and vegetables are a good source for this.  A good diet, along with vitamin supplementation should take care of a persons need for electrolytes.
