Does laser eye surgery hurt?

Answer:
No. The procedure itself is painless. Your eyes
are “numbed” with anesthetic eye drops prior to the surgery and no general anesthetic is necessary.

Some patients may feel a little pressure on the eye during the LASIK surgery when the corneal flap is being created but this is only mild. After PRK surgery, some patients may experience a “sandy” feeling in their eyes for a few days.

Some patients may also experience sensitivity to light and their eyes may water for a day or two after laser eye surgery. However, on the whole, in terms of pain, laser eye surgery is a mild procedure and one from which patients recover quickly.
