What are the Risks of Botox?

Answer:
Botox is commonly used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles,
usually on the face. Botox injections should only be performed by certified plastic surgeons. Even when plastic surgeons perform the procedures, there are still many risks.

Botox is a toxin which comes from the Botulinum bacteria, which is able to weaken muscles in the face, eliminating wrinkles. In large doses, it can actually cause botulism, which can be life-threatening.

Other risks of using Botox include nausea, headaches, respiratory infections, drooping eyelids, and flu-like symptoms, although most of these symptoms are short-lived. Pain around the injection site is also fairly common, as well as allergic reactions. Nursing and pregnant women should never use Botox; nor should people with disorders of the nervous system.

Possibly the greatest risk of Botox is receiving counterfeit Botox, which is just one reason why the procedure should always be performed by a reputable doctor.
