What are the risks of Liposuction?

Answer:
More often than not, patients are pleased with the
results of a liposuction procedure.  However, as with any medical procedure, there are certain risks that need to be considered before going through with it.

Infections can result after any surgical procedure, and can occur after liposuction. To help reduce the chances of developing an infection, a physician may decide to prescribe an antibiotic after surgery , others may not.  It is important to follow the instructions given for keeping the incisions clean.  Infections can be life threatening.

Embolisms may occur from fat entering the blood stream.  Fat can get clogged in the lungs, blood vessels, and can travel to the brain.

If you have ever watched one of those medical programs and seen a liposuction procedure, you know how violent it looks (and tasty).  In some cases, organs have been punctured by the probe, also known as visceral perforations.

Along with seroma, changes in nerve sensation, swelling, burns, and fluid imbalance, there is also a chance of complications that arise from anesthesia.

In most procedures these problems don't occur.  But, there is a chance and it is a good idea to discuss all of them with your doctor.
