What is LASEK? |
|
Answer:
LASEK stands for laser epithelial keratomileusis and During LASEK surgery the outer layer of the cornea (the epithelium) is cut in a thin sheet whilst retaining a hinge on the eye. The sheet is then loosened with the use of alcohol, positioned away from the eye, and the cornea re-sculpted with an excimer laser. The epithelium is then replaced and a soft disposable contact lens, which acts as a bandage, is applied. LASEK surgery is used as an alternative procedure to LASIK surgery for those patients whose corneas are either too thin or too flat and are therefore unsuitable for the LASIK procedure. Trackback(0)
