What is Outpatient Surgery?

Answer:
Outpatient surgery allows a patient to return
home on the same day as surgery. It’s also referred to an ambulatory surgery or same-day surgery.

More procedures are now being performed in a surgeon’s office (referred to as office-based surgery) rather than in an operating room. Outpatient surgery eliminates inpatient hospital admission, and uses a doctor’s time more efficiently. It’s best suited for fit, healthy individuals undergoing minor or intermediate procedures.

It’s developed over the past thirty years as a result of a number of factors including the desire to reduce health care costs and the increase in less invasive surgical techniques.
