What Is Advent?

Answer:
Advent is a Latin word

and is the beginning of the Church Year that comprises of the four weeks prior to Christmas and concluding with Christmas.

In western churches, advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas whereas in Eastern churches advent begins in mid-November and is observed by Christians as a season of prayer, fasting and penitence. However, in terms of Christian theology, advent is the reappearance of the Jesus as judge for the last judgment.

Christians celebrates this time of expectations or liturgical season with colors and the color of advent is purple or royal blue which in turn symbolizing the birth of a king. Churches are also decorated for the period of advent with a Chrismon tree hung with Christian symbols, advent wreath, greenery and poinsettias.
