What is Dementia?

Answer:
Dementia is a broad term relating generally
to the decrease in mental ability.  This condition is often associated with very old age and a number of other diseases and conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease and the effects of multiple and severe strokes

People with dementia often experience difficulty with memory, attention span, cognition, speaking/writing, reasoning, and judgment.  Dementia conditions can sometimes occur as the result of a progressively worsening disease or condition or can occur more suddenly, as in the case of a stroke.  Even though this term applies to a number of conditions, it is generally agreed, however, that dementia disrupts and even disables one’s ability to participate in mainstream society even with a great deal of assistance.
