What are Anabolic Steroids? |
|
Answer:
Anabolic steroids are a group of synthetic hormones, When steroids are used in excessive doses, they have been shown to cause numerous side effects, such as high blood pressure, increase in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and hepatotoxicity. The different types of anabolic steroids depends on the way the drug is administered into human body. The three most common ways that people take anabolic steroids are oral, transdermal and by injecting them. While oral administration is in the form of pills, transdermal is done by gently rubbing cremes on skin or using transdermal patches. With the use of steroids in sports being so prevalent in the media, you may have heard of the cream and the clear. These are types of transdermal steroids. Oral and transdermal steroids are easy to use and don't really require any professional help to administer. Injection form may require a professional to administer, at least at first. Steroids are taken in cycles or stacks. These refer to the type of steroid used and the time period that they are taken for. The sport most commonly associated with steroid use is bodybuilding. This is due to the effects steroids have on strength gains, muscle size, and recovery time. Recently, former Pittsburg Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw admitted to using steroids during his playing days. Former defensive lineman Lyle Alzado attributed the brain tumor that eventually killed him to excessive steroid use.
