What is creatine?

Answer:
Creatine, which is produced naturally by the
body, can help increase a muscle's performance during
physical activity.

This allows the athlete to perform at a higher level of intensity during exercise.  The higher the intensity during exercise, the greater the strength gains will be.

We get most of our creatine from meat and fish.  It is stored in the muscles as phosphocreatine.  Taking a creatine supplement can increase the stores of phosphocreatine to a level that can not be achieved through food intake alone.  This increase of stored phosphocreatine is particularly useful in sports, such as football, that require short bursts of power.

There is less beneficial evidence of creatine supplementation in sports requiring a high level of aerobic activity.
