What is Iron?

Answer:
Iron is an important mineral for health, since
it serves as a delivery system for oxygen; transporting it from the lungs, out to the whole body via hemoglobin in the bloodstream.

Iron is needed to form hemoglobin in the blood; which is designed to move the oxygen safely, effectively and efficiently.

Since the body requires oxygen in all its parts, having the proper levels of iron in the system ensures that can be achieved.  Lack of adequate levels of iron, or iron deficiency, can lead to certain types of anemia, and more.

Too much iron can also be toxic to humans, and can even cause death, in extreme doses; thus it is recommended that you consult with your medical or health professional before taking iron supplements or iron-rich substances.

Iron is found in fish, poultry, red meat, beans, tofu, leafy vegetables, lentils, chickpeas, dried fruits (raisins, dates) and numerous other foods.

Always consult with your health professional regarding safe and effective use of iron and other vitamins or supplements.
