There are a few good exercises that provide resistance during these functions.
We will use a superset of an isolation movement followed by a compound movement. The best isolation exercise for the hamstrings is leg curls. In this exercise, you typically lie face down on a bench with your legs straight, hook your Achilles under a padded bar, and then curl your heels up toward your butt. Allow a pause at the top and then lower the weight under control. This is then followed by straight-legged dead lifts. I consider this to be the best hamstring exercise ever devised. Strict form is required for this exercise to work effectively. Stand with your feet a few inches apart and a loaded barbell hanging at arms length. While keeping both your back and legs straight, bend at the hips and allow the weight to pull your torso down toward the floor. Depending on your flexibility, you may be able to go until your torso is parallel with the floor. If not, just go as far as you can while maintaining the proper form. Squats, mostly thought of as a quad exercise, are also effective in working the hamstrings around two axis of rotation and can be substituted for the stiff-legged dead lifts from time to time.
