What is an Incline?

Answer:
When someone refers to an incline in reference
to weight training, they are referring to the incline bench press.  This is performed much like the bench press but with the back rest set at an incline.

There are fixed incline benches and adjustable benches.  Most fixed incline benches are built at around a forty-five degree angle.  The incline press places more emphasis on the upper portion of the pectoral muscles, as well as bringing the anterior deltoids more into play.  The steeper the incline, the more the delts are involved and the less the pecs are involved.  An adjustable incline bench is more versatile in that you can choose the level of incline based on what you would like to work more.

The only difference between the performance of the flat bench and incline bench is that, due to the increased angle of the torso, the bar is brought to a point much higher on the chest.
