What is definition?

Answer:
Definition as what we refer to in an athlete
that has muscles that are very visible through the skin.  This is also known as being "cut up"
People tend to want their abs to be well defined, or have a "six pack".

Typically, a power lifter will be less defined due to the emphasis on heavy lifting.  Additionally, power lifters aren't that focused on what they look like without their shirt on.

Bodybuilders, on the other hand, have physique "phases" that they go through.  One is a bulking phase, in which they train much like a power lifter.  During this phase, a bodybuilder will lift heavier weights, focusing on compound lifts.  They will also eat everything, including the kitchen sink, in order to "bulk up" their body mass.

Then there is the cutting phase.  This is where the bodybuilder tries to achieve definition in the muscles they have built.  Size combined with definition is what bodybuilders are judged on.  Cutting includes burning fat and cutting water weight.  There are great lengths that one will go to in order to get cut up, including taking dangerous diuretics in order to shed water weight and achieve the right amount of definition.
