What are Breast Implants?

Answer:
Breast implants are made of natural body tissue
or synthetic (man-made) materials and are used to enhance the shape and size of the breasts. The majority of breast implant surgery is carried out for cosmetic reasons, with a small percentage being performed for reconstruction purposes, usually following breast cancer surgery.

The implant is placed either under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle behind the breast. The two main types of synthetic implant are saline-filled and silicone gel-filled; both types of synthetic breast implants are surrounded by a firm elastic silicone shell. There are a number of risks associated with breast implant surgery, and with the implants themselves.
