What are Stretch Marks?

Answer:
Stretch marks are shiny scars that appear in
the skin.  The scars form due to a rapid stretching of the skin and tearing of the dermis.

This stretching is a result of rapid growth from puberty, rapid muscle mass development due to bodybuilding, or any rapid weight gain.  Rapid weight gain is why many pregnant women develop stretch marks.  Stretch marks never go away completely, but can diminish over time.

Stretch marks usually show up as reddish purple marks on the skin, but eventually fade to a lighter color.
